Those who attended religious education classes at Sacred Heart Parish of Punta Gorda turned their disappointment into activities that included making Christmas cards by hand and creating gift bags for residents.Bishop Dewane recorded a Christmas Day mass to be broadcast on television to those confined to their homes and also offered a live mass from the Catholic Canter in Venice on Christmas Day.

, who joined the Order of Malta several years ago, dedicated 1980 volunteer hours to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Venice, Inc. Proceeds from the event will go to programs of the Diocese of Catholic Charities of Venice in Sarasota and Manatee counties. After Hurricane Irma, the American Red Cross provided a grant to Catholic Charities for free telemental health services for those who lived in Florida during the storm. In addition, digital religious education programs and other materials on the teachings of the Catholic Church were made available to prisoners across the state.
